Triatoma infestans (vinchucas) constituye el principal vector del parásito Trypanosoma cruzi, agente etiológico de la Enfermedad de Chagas. La herramienta más eficaz para el control de las vinchucas son los insecticidas del tipo piretroides. La presencia de vinchucas resistentes a piretroides trae aparejado la necesidad de buscar nuevas alternativas para su eliminación.<br/>Los bioinsecticidas se posicionan en la actualidad como una alternativa novedosa, menos agresiva para el ambiente y de menor costo con respecto al uso de los insecticidas sintéticos tradicionales.El geraniol es un monoterpeno que ha demostrado tener actividad insecticida y repelente en insectos.<br/>Los objetivos del presente trabajo fueron determinar y comparar la actividad letal y repelente del insecticida piretroide deltametrina y el bioinsecticidasgeraniol. El geraniol demostró tener similar actividad letal en las ninfas susceptibles y resistentes a piretroides.<br/>Cuando ambos insecticidas se combinaron, el geraniol reportó un efecto sinérgico en la letalidad de la deltametrina. En cuanto a la actividad repelente, a bajas concentraciones el geraniol demostró menor potencia que el DEET, sin embargo, cuando ambas moléculas fueron combinadas la presencia del monoterpeno aumento la capacidad de repelencia del DEET.<br/>Los resultados presentados en este trabajo de investigación pueden constituir un primer paso para posicionar al monoterpeno geraniol como una alternativa para el control integrado de T. infestans. Nuevos trabajos son necesarios con el objetivo de dilucidar los mecanismos de acción por los cuales esta molécula causa los efectos letales y de repelencia en este trabajo descriptos. |
